The Fearless Awards: The Power of Being Seen

The Fearless Awards: The Power of Being Seen

Has anyone ever said to you, “This picture just doesn’t do it justice”? Or perhaps, “The island is so much prettier in person.”

That’s exactly how I felt after experiencing the inaugural Fearless Awards.

There was no previous year to compare it to. No “last year was better” or “we should have done what we did before.” There was simply the experience itself—and from beginning to end, I was completely captivated. I was so absorbed in every moment that when it was over, I couldn’t believe how quickly the time had passed.

There’s truth in the idea that sometimes you have to experience something for yourself to truly understand its magnitude.

Think about the sunset you’ll never forget. The birth of your child. The moment you looked into your pet’s eyes and knew, that’s the one I’m taking home.

These are the moments that stay with us. Moments that move something inside us and change the way we see the world, even if only a little.

For those of us gathered inside Cincinnati Music Hall on September 21, 2026, the Fearless Awards was one of those moments.

And perhaps the most telling part came after the program ended.

People didn’t leave.

They stayed.

They talked. They laughed. They hugged. They took countless pictures together. There was a sense that no one was quite ready for the experience to be over.

Because every now and then, we find ourselves part of something that feels bigger than an event.

The Moment They Walked In

It started the moment the B.R.I.D.G.E. graduates arrived.

You couldn’t miss the shared looks of awe and wonder on their faces.

Here they were, walking into Cincinnati Music Hall—a historic and breathtaking venue in downtown Cincinnati—beautifully decorated for an event created in their honor.

And I couldn’t help but wonder:

Was this the first time they had ever been the center of attention in a room like this?

Was this the first time they had been recognized so publicly for who they were and what they had accomplished?

Did they understand who was in the room—and why they were there?

Did they fully comprehend what they had done to earn their place among the honorees?

Something tells me they didn’t.

Because how could they?

Sometimes we don’t recognize the significance of our own journey until someone else reflects it back to us.

The Power of Someone Saying, “I See You.”

Most of us can look back on our lives and remember someone who reached out and gave us a lift.

Maybe it was a mentor who believed in us at our first job. A teacher who encouraged us when we needed it most. A coach who saw something in us that we couldn’t yet see in ourselves.

Those moments can change the trajectory of a life.

And often, no one else witnesses them.

At the Fearless Awards, however, everyone in that room had the privilege of witnessing something extraordinary: the power of one person reaching out to another and saying, in essence, “I see you. I believe in you. I’ve got you.”

You could see it on the graduates’ faces.

In their expressions.

In their smiles.

In their posture.

In the way their entire demeanor seemed to change when they discovered who their mentor would be.

It was joy in its purest form.

And it was beautiful to witness.

One Decision Can Open a Door

We make countless decisions throughout our lives.

Some are small. Others change everything.

We choose whether to take the opportunity. Whether to try something new. Whether to invest in ourselves. Whether to believe that something different might actually be possible.

Sometimes we make those choices without knowing where they will lead.

That’s what makes the journey so remarkable.

Did these five B.R.I.D.G.E. graduates know that their decision to participate in the program would eventually lead them to the Fearless Awards?

That they would be publicly honored?

That they would receive a college scholarship?

That they would be paired with a professional woman who would walk alongside them for four months as a mentor?

No.

They simply said yes to B.R.I.D.G.E.

And that one decision opened a door they didn’t even know was there.

What Happens Next?

Now comes the part I’m most excited about.

The Fearless Awards wasn’t the finish line.

It was the beginning of something new.

Over the next four months, these five graduates will build relationships with five professional women who have agreed to share their time, wisdom, experiences, and encouragement.

We don’t yet know exactly where those relationships will lead.

And that’s the beauty of it.

What happens when a young woman is given the opportunity to see beyond what she currently knows?

What happens when someone with experience reaches back and says, “Let me show you what’s possible”?

What happens when a young woman who has already made the courageous decision to invest in herself is given even more support to move forward?

We’re about to find out.

The Fearless Awards may have lasted just 90 minutes, but its impact has only begun.

Stay tuned. The next chapter belongs to these five remarkable young women—and the possibilities ahead of them.
