I AM HER: The Story Behind the Story

I AM HER: The Story Behind the Story

I AM HER.

We are complex beings, made up of many layers. The outermost layer is what we present to the world—the part others see. Beneath it are layers upon layers of experiences, relationships, memories, disappointments, hopes, and dreams. Woven together, they become part of the person we are today.

Recognizing a part of ourselves in someone else is a deeply human experience. It is how we discover common ground and realize that, despite our differences, we may share more than we ever imagined.

But finding that common ground takes vulnerability.

Some painful experiences are buried so deeply that we convince ourselves they no longer matter. We may avoid them, minimize them, or simply learn to live around them. Yet what we bury does not necessarily disappear. Over time, its tendrils can reach toward the surface, quietly influencing how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we imagine our future.

Healing begins when we are willing to shine a light on what we have been avoiding.

We can acknowledge what happened without allowing it to define who we are. We can own our experiences without turning them into adjectives that describe us. Something can be part of our story without becoming the story of who we are.

That is the heart of I AM HER.

Father absence is an experience that can cross every demographic, circumstance, and generation. Young or old. Black or white. Rich or poor. Its impact does not discriminate.

And while we cannot change the past, we can influence what comes next.

There is power in recognizing ourselves in someone who is just beginning to navigate an experience we have already walked through. Our stories can become a source of understanding. Our healing can become a source of hope. And our willingness to stand beside someone can help change a trajectory that might otherwise follow a familiar path.

We believe deeply in the importance of a father's active presence in his daughter's life. We know the value of that connection and the impact it can have.

But we also recognize that life is complicated. Father absence can take many forms—physical, emotional, or relational—and it is not always the result of a father's choice or a family's lack of love.

We cannot wave a magic wand and rewrite someone's past.

What we can do is meet each girl exactly where she is today.

We can listen.
We can support.
We can equip.
We can help her recognize her worth.
And we can help her envision a future that is not limited by her circumstances.

That is what we hope I AM HER does.

We hope this video reaches the teen girl who needs to see it most—the girl who may be quietly asking questions she doesn't know how to put into words. The girl wondering if anyone else understands. The girl who may believe she is alone.

We want her to see herself in these stories and experience the relief that comes with knowing:

I am not alone.

There are others who understand.

There is a path forward.

There is hope.

And there is a community willing to walk beside me.

Through the B.R.I.D.G.E.® program, we have the opportunity to meet girls navigating father absence and help them build confidence, strengthen life skills, envision their futures, and recognize that their experiences do not have to determine their outcomes.

These young women deserve the best that life has to offer.

We cannot choose the world we are born into. But we can make choices that shape the world we create for ourselves and the generations that follow.

We can challenge the assumptions attached to statistics.
We can interrupt cycles.
We can choose healing over hiding.
We can choose possibility over limitation.
And together, we can help create communities where girls know their worth and have the support to pursue the future they deserve.

So perhaps I AM HER is more than a statement.

Perhaps it is a reminder.

I AM HER champion.
I AM HER supporter.
I AM HER advocate.
I AM HER path forward.

Or perhaps, at its simplest and most powerful:

I AM HER.
